Description:
Small, greenish-yellow finch with fine bill, bright yellow wingbars and slightly forked tail. Male has black crown and chin, bright yellow supercilium and black-and-yellow wings. Female with yellowish patches at base of secondaries and primaries and brighter yellow rump.
Distribution:
Frequent winter vagrant to the northern parts of Hunza district in Gilgit-Baltistan. Usually occurs in submontane and montane conifer forests or mixed woods, cultivation edge and thickets, also frequents wide variety of trees, seen up to 2800m.
Behavior:
Forages mostly in trees, including canopy of conifers, larches and alders; not uncommonly on ground during migration, and feeds often on ground in winter. Feeds on mostly seeds, buds and fruit; some invertebrates. Seeds and buds include those of spruce, pine, juniper, birch, willow, poplar and many other plants.
